As far back as I could remember, I remember the good ol' days of regular television when I was growing up.  Watching cartoons and anime in the morning and in the afternoon weekdays and on Saturdays, or on some cases, Sundays.  But, since the late 90s and into the new millenium, everything changed. Since then, the only thing we see is nothing but talk shows, court shows, the morning news, sitcoms, paid programming and of course, reality T.V.  Look, I know we got cable and satellite and the internet, so let us watch the cartoons and anime we grew up watching and those modern animated shows we like, mostly.  But, what about those who cannot afford the luxuries we have, all they got is all the crud they have been seeing since the late 90s.  But, to me, it goes way back before then. So long, networks have a habit of pleasing the audience for a number of yes and suddenly, they do an about face and bought into the cespit of hatred and lies from Soccer Moms and Watchdog groups, stating that animation, is too violent and such.  How do I know about this?  I have experienced it first hand.

In the beginning, it was NBC. In 1992, before, during and after the Barcelona Olympic Games, they cancelled the Saturday morning cartoon block after decades of showing cartoons and replaced it with teen sitcoms.  Today, NBC shows the Qubo block, which consists on children's shows.

Through the next decade, I though NBC would be the only network to not show cartoons, but after all these years, I was so wrong. Since then, other networks decided to jump on NBC's bangwagon and do the unthinkable.

CBS; Their cartoon block was awesome back then, not only because of The Little Mermaid t.v. show, but also an hour of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  But those days are over, when they replaced it with the morning news and in between, children's shows from Cookie Jar Entertainment, formerly DIC Entertainment.

ABC; Their block was a mixed bag, in the early 90s, they got shows like Sonic SatAM, The Real Ghostbusters, ReBoot and not to mention the Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show.  In the late years in the 90s, ABC was bought by Disney and they start showing Disney related cartoons, before cancelling them and replace them with ABC Kids, which is a Disney Channel related block, which since got cancelled, too and no plans for a new cartoon block in the imediate future.

FOX; Like the network itself, it started slow with their cartoon block, but it catched on because of shows like Peter Pan & the Pirates, Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men, The Tick, Power Rangers and various animes.  But, it was cancelled and replaced with the FOX BOX when most of the Saban properties went to Disney and 4Kids took over the block, renamed it 4Kids T.V. and then ultimately got cancelled. Since then, it has shown nothing but paid programming.

Kids WB; If FOX ever had a rival, Kids WB fits the bill.  Their block consists on cartoons, mostly from the Warner Bros. perspective, like Animaniacs, Freakazoid!, Pinky and the Brain, even Batman joins the fray after a few years on FOX and joined with Superman.  Even Earthworm Jim and Men in Black joined the fray and we enjoyed every single show that we watch, in both Saturdays and in Weekdays.  But, in the later years, the weekday blocks were replaced with talk shows and sitcoms.  The Saturday block was still showing until it bellyed up and was replaced with 4Kids' new block, CW4Kids Toonzai, which to this date, the only cartoon block on the air on regular t.v. and due to lack of competition, not as good as the old cartoon blocks.

USA; Growing up, I use to watch the Cartoon Express, all the time. Same goes with the Action Extreme Team. But, they have replace both of them with nothing constant marathons of the same shows.

Sci Fi, now called SyFy (See-Fee); Like USA, they use to show cartoons, too, but they also show anime as well.  And just like USA, they cancelled them all. In the later years, they brought back anime, only to cancel them in the process.

Colours TV; The multi-racial, multi-cultural network.  I didn't know it had a animated block until I discovered that they had a FUNimation Channel block. I enjoyed the shows they got there, including Kiddy Grade and Negima.  But, no soon I enjoyed it, Colours, tired of showing the same thing over again, decided to cancel the block.  Along with the lack of japanese culture in the network in the later years, Colours TV was removed for some satellite providers for lack of audience.  I believe their removal of the FUNimation TV block has became their undoing.

There so many networks I like to mention, but you get my drift.  I may have satellite providers like DISH Network, but I feel bad for those who don't have the luxuries we got.  They deserve better than this.  Not only I blame Soccer Moms and Watchdog groups, but I also blame the FCC for unstabilizing the balance of all television.  Bottom line, it's not just regular t.v. that is effected, but cable channels, too. The networks may please you now.  But, it the later years, they will pull a Seto Kaiba and will screw the rules, cause they got money.  Stay vigilant my friends.  We need balance for all television and animation deserves a place in that balance.

Does it really NEED to come back? I liked Toonami too, but the media is a much different place in 2012 than it was in 2001-2003 when Toonami was at it's peak. I mean back then anime was either not well dubbed, or the DVD/Video releases were terrible. Toonami was also there, because back then the internet wasn't as powerful as it is now. I mean back then you couldn't watch Dragonball Z, or Sailor Moon in all of their uncensored glory with well translated subtitles, nor could you easily get access to an uncut anime DVDs then. These days where you can though, it's kind of unnecessary to bring it back. Let Toonami rest in peace. I loved it too, but these days there are other ways to watch anime.

Well these days I would just watch it on either Hulu or Crunchyroll. I probably wouldn't bother with watching anime on TV.
